Like many years ago, the 2023 Grammy Awards honored the lives of late music industry legends, and this year, we’re betting there isn’t a dry eye in the house. Kacey Musgraves went on stage.
The “Rainbow” singer began to sing, surrounded by a flower arrangement and a simple red dress that matched perfectly with each rose. She performed an emotional “Coal Miner’s Daughter” in memory of the deceased. Loretta Lynn This moment made even more sense as Kacey used Loretta’s original guitar to perform her poignant tribute.
The country music icon passed away at the age of 90 last October, leaving a legacy that will last a lifetime. She has enjoyed a long career spanning over seven decades and has helped open the door to women’s voices in the country music industry.
Loretta’s official Instagram account read, “Thanks @spaceykacey for this beautiful memorial. The love you all show us for our mother is beyond words. #GRAMMYs @recordingacademy.”
Kacey replied, “I love you all. Thank you for trusting me in that moment. ♥️” and shared a private message with her fans on her Instagram account. In her post, she wrote: “The ten-year-old me singing Loretta probably wouldn’t have believed I would ever have the opportunity to fully cling to the object she has cast her magic on and channeled its greatness to for decades. Thank you, the girls, for trusting me in this moment of great honor.”
Kacey has always been vocal about her impact on Loretta’s career. Not only did the two perform together at the 2014 CMA Awards, but in an interview at the 2019 ACM Awards, she named her and Dolly some of her biggest influences.
After fans wiped their tears, everyone rushed to the “Golden Hour” singer’s comments to say what they really thought of her Grammy performance:
